Ava Anderson Shut Down!

Holy Cow! I just heard about Ava Anderson Closing!

(Update: I have just received word that Ava Anderson is going away but there will be a company taking over and rebranding some of their products. So, there will be no Ava Anderson but it will be something else??  If you know the new brand, please share!  Make sure you read this entire story though..there’s some drama that might interest you.)

Is this yet another scary part of mlm businesses? I always feel so sorry for the mlm consultants when their mlm opportunity goes down because of the feds or because of something like this.

Even if you think mlm is the answer, you can’t deny that people lose BIG TIME when they put all their eggs in one basket and Ava Anderson Consultants are no exception.

There are now many consultants that are probably in some sort of panic because many of the “big timers” will lose a huge portion of their income for their homes and will now have to jump to another mlm opportunity.

Where will the go?

Ava Anderson Closing – What will Consultants Do?

If the consultants are smart, hopefully they have built out their own brands and merely suggested the Ava Anderson products as a great idea.

Sadly, this is not likely and I bet you this a very hard learned lesson for the consultants who failed to brand themselves.

Doing mlm right means that you have to brand yourself first. Branding YOU means that way you can recover from a hard fall like this one.

Here is what the Ava Anderson Consultants woke up to recently: A letter about the Anderson Family leaving the opportunity. The leaders jumping ship.

But it’s not because of some fraud or weird scandal.

It’s actually more personal than that.

Dear Ava Anderson Customers,

Thank you for your patience – the Ava Anderson website and shopping cart are temporarily unavailable and will be live again soon to purchase final approved products.

The Anderson Family has made the difficult decision to end their 6-year journey by closing what you have come to know as Ava Anderson LLC. (Please read their heartfelt message below).

However, the Management Team at our RI-based home office will pick up the torch and carry it forward. We are diligently working to continue to offer the great products you have experienced over the past 6 years under a new brand. It is our intention to transfer all the great aspects of the company you currently know.

We appreciate your commitment and patience as we work through this transition.

We are a family who has supported our daughter, in a sincere and unselfish mission to educate everyone about this important issue, and know that we have made a difference, with the support of our Consultants and all of you.  Our amazing and dedicated team has worked tirelessly for all of you. We have done everything in this business from sourcing and manufacturing products, to the way we pay and treat each and every team member in our home office and each Ava Anderson Consultant with the highest of integrity always!

We hope you will be able to understand that our daughter has been under attack, online and in person, and has been tethered to social media for years, attempting to protect the brand and the company she cares so much for, as well as for each of you. She (and our family and team) have always felt a tremendous responsibility to all of you and we have done our very best to fulfill that.

We simply cannot see any possible happiness or peace for her future or our family being treated this way.  We have tolerated it for years to build this company, but have lost the ability to battle and continue to sustain the barrage daily. We know your hearts and believe you would take this same action if your child or family were being treated this way and could no longer function.

We are so sorry for this, the most difficult decision of our lives, but we can see no other way to continue.

Ava Anderson Closing – Is the Family just Coping out?

I don’t know what the deal is with the “battle” comments in the letter and what Ava Anderson has had to face.

I do know that it’s a shame in today’s world that the owners of a company who had a dream vision has to bail out because of allowing others bring them down.

I completely understand that the pressure must be intense being in such a large company, and no one said saving the world is easy, but it makes me utterly sad to see that they have to bail out to find peace and happiness again.

Did they get too “close” to the business? Did they not manage separation of family and work so well?

What is it that they are dealing with?

Don’t you want to know?

I do.

So I did some digging….

Ava Anderson LLC Shut Down – Who are the Haters?

It looks like the main culprit to the Ava Anderson shut down is a women named Jess who is 36 years old and has two sons. She owns the site: www.ecofriendlymamausa.com   When reading her “about page” you quickly find out that she is on a mission to protect people from hazardous chemicals and is very deeply opinionated mama. (She uses a lot of exclamation points.)

So what is the drama with this mama?

A little while back she (Jess) was asked to review Ava Anderson Products.   She was….well…surprised and unhappy with what she found:

1. Some products contained a combination of sodium benzoate & gluconolactone called Geogard Ultra.
2. She abruptly noticed that the Ava Anderson Dish Soap seemed to work really really well for being a natural soap…..and the light bulb went off.

If you know anything about “natural products”,  you know that they aren’t well known for doing a great job in comparison to their chemical alternatives and suds?….What suds?

So she did some digging….

She ended up finding out that there was some “not so organic” stuff in the Ava Anderson soap and then…pretty much the Soap Hit the Fan…….

Jess even admits to being completely irate about the situation and states the following:

1. She is extremely angry that the ingredients were not honestly labeled.
2. She is mad that consumers are buying high priced “organic” products based on a lie and that have non-organic materials.
3. She sees the Andersons as money hungry mongers and she’s totally pissed.
4. She believes people are in huge danger because of the misinformation and blames and holds the Ava Anderson LLC completely responsible for any ill effects. She has gone through some major life tragedies (cancers affecting family) and is extremely determined to keep hazardous chemicals out of her life and believes many others are on the same mission.
5. She is pissed that the Andersons won’t answer her questions.
6. She blames them for everything. She is angry that the company rewarded their consultants and brought in over 20 million but had a lapse in quality control. She specifically states that whoever is responsible “NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS”.
7. She is angry that the company is not apologizing, paying out or otherwise being punished for the lies (known or unknown) about the product ingredients.

 

There is a LOT more to this drama but I’m going out on branch to say this:

Don’t piss off a major supporter of the type of products you sell or of what your product represents and then disappear and fail to answer questions.

Keep your company on the up and up and if you say you are transparent, then by all means….be transparent.

There is DANGER online with so many educated and passionate bloggers out there.

The big mistake I see here with Ava Anderson is that they didn’t reach out and work with this blogger to try and figure out the mystery by keeping open communication.

Can one blogger shut down a whole company?

Absolutely. One blogger, who is huge and trusted in that particular niche, can definitely throw some seriously huge maltolv cocktails. (and in some ways…rightfully so)

So it’s not so much that Jess woke up one morning and decided to shut down Ava Anderson (although I’m willing to bet she is a little bit happy about it), it’s more that she was adament in helping others learn what was going on and she had her own self appointed mission to protect the others, like her, who rely on the trustworthiness of the companies that they use to protect their families from ingredients they have found as hazardous and harmful to humans.

This makes me respect her. And I’m totally curious what she has to say about the BeautyCounter mlm that I recently reviewed. (Watch out! Jess is coming!)

I’m inclined to say that this gal needs to take on a health inspection job. I’m sure she’d do some serious damage and shut down lots of restaurants.

I admire her deep skill set in observation along with her thorough thought process.

Quite honestly….someone should be paying this women to do more inspections like this. You WANT someone who can think outside the box, find problems and work relentlessly to figure out the mysteries to problems.

Could she be a little more calm about it…well yes.  But if she was, would she ever be so determined to find out the truth and be the very blogger that she is?  Probably not.

Although I do believe the Anderson Family is probably NOT as evil as Jess,the Eco Mama, probably believes (it’s just hard for me to believe anyone who starts an organic company to be this way), I do believe that they had a responsibility to respond and work alongside Jess to resolve the problem.

Rather than adjust to the blows and stand taller to fight against the mistakes that were found, they bailed out because of the pressure.

I understand that it’s a tough world out there, but I wish they hadn’t bailed. It says a lot more when you stand up and fix things, admit wrongs and repair them, than it does to completely bail out.

That being said, if the family was falling apart and the emotional connection to the opportunity was cutting too deep, then I believe they totally made the right decision.

Family first…. right?

What will the Ava Anderson Consultants do?

My advice?

Stay out of mlms. If the Ava Anderson Consultants had all their eggs in the Ava Anderson Baskets and they didn’t brand themselves, it’s likely that they are screwed.

That being said, they can start from the ground up and go at it again. But that is a TON of work. Even if the rebranding works out, there is still a hump to recover from. (not fun)

If they branded themselves, the transition from one mlm to another won’t be too difficult.

Here is a list of mlm that Ava Anderson Consultants with branded sites (hopefully about organic products and hippie type stuff…which I love) could probably easily transfer to and be successful:

• Poofy Organics (Yes…Jess the Ecomama is a Consultant)
• Miessence
• BeautyCounter
• GoDesana
• Purium
• Beyond Organic

That’s just a few. There are more mlms that sell a ton of products that are not listed “organic” but do sell the occasional organic product line.

Listen…

There is not doubt that the shut down of the Ava Anderson Company is a tragedy. It was started by a young entrepreneur that was determined to help better the world.

There is no doubt this girl is destine for success. Being so young, she needed her family to help build her mission and she quickly rose to fame and fortune.

The family has learned a LOT about a business that they probably never even imagined about just a decade ago.

If they have found that this adventure threw more punches and had way more responsibility than they could handle, then I applaud them for bowing out.

No matter what opportunity you are going into, you will have competitors and people who will try to take you down (rightfully and unrightfully so). This is just the way of the world.

In regards to Jess? She was and is a competitor. She promotes a different mlm but that doesn’t make her wrong for being so angered at the lies Ava Anderson was apparently hiding.

To me it sounds like the Anderson family put their trust in the wrong companies and then didn’t realize the power that one powerful mama on a mission contained.

They were overwhelmed and perhaps should have had someone else handling the comments and responses. Now the company and their name has been tainted whether they like it or not.

Keep business and family separate out there!

It’s ok to share about your family, but always know the company you keep and always back up your mission statement.

If you can’t, it’s time to change the path you are following because Karma will give you a major wake up call.
