Anyone who has ever been to Tagaytay before it became a famous weekend destination for people from the Metro. Long before Antonio’s or Sonya’s Garden. During a time when Taal Vista Lodge was still Taal Viata Lodge. When there was no McDonald’s, Jollibee, Starbucks, Pancake House, or whatever Manila franchise in the now congested row of restaurants. Long before all of that… there was Mushroomburger. It’s claim to fame, the patty was made of mushrooms. It was supposed to be healthy, and it was supposed to taste like a beef burger. It has been literally decades since I had one. Every time I pass it in Tagaytay, I just… pass by. I remember liking Mushroomburger, but I don’t really remember how it tasted. So when I saw one opening in Katipunan, between Starbucks and National Bookstore, where the old Jollibee was located (before a bigger one was made a few establishments down), I decided that it deserved a try. So during our lunch break, along with officemates Carlo and Cal, we went to Mushroomburger from the TechnoHub. I was wondering if such a unique restaurant would survive. To me, it was always a niche place. It was a novelty that anyone who wanted to try something different would go. After you try it, you move on and go on to more mainstream burger joints. Anyway, it was a thought.
