How do you know how to choose a career?
Do you let it choose you? Do you do what others say you should do?
What if you enjoy most things and have no idea which one to choose to live forever in?
The first mistakes you make with asking yourself these questions can impact how you live for years to come. The good news is, is that you are allowed to ask yourself these questions everyday and everyday you are allowed to have a different answer.
Pretty cool huh?
When I was was younger I remember my mother and teachers asking me what I wanted to do.
I had no idea.
I wanted to LIVE!
That was the best answer I could think of and it’s the same answer today.
Although it’s a good question and I truly have a good answer, it’s not enough.
You have define what living is for you in order to pinpoint the opportunities that you decide to take in order to live the life you want.
What does that life look like?
It has to be somewhat based on reality because no one is going to hand you a free ride. It’s just the truth so get that out of your mind right now.
Stop trying to win the lottery and by all means stop looking everywhere for the best work at home opportunity because those ploys will only take you so far.
Many people get into these mlms that I review and they don’t realize the amount of energy and time that it takes to really get to a point where you find financial freedom through the opportunity.
Many people find themselves envious of others who work for themselves and mistakenly think that these types of people are living a kick ass life with little to no efforts.
While it may appear that they “never work”, in reality they are probably busting some major bootay while everyone is out at the bar on a Friday night, sleeping in on a Sunday morning or going to “The Game” on Thursday.
The reality is, to our millionaire minded and acting peeps out there, is that everyday is a work day. But..the other side of that coin is that every day is also a weekend. It’s just about as opposite of a double edged sword you can get.
Both sides have ups and downs but overall it brings a joy that is indescribable. You work hard to enjoy the fruits of your labor that you laboriously work at day in and day out. People think you are crazy, you work too much, you’re too focused and that you’ll never succeed. They simply don’t think like a millionaire.
If Plan A doesn’t work, millionaires move to Plan B, C, D and X,Y,Z.
Millionaire Thinkers push through.
Millionaire thinkers push through their own doubts and freakin take a bat, like a gangster, to the doubts of others.
They don’t settle for the mindset of all the people around them who just accept that a normal 9 to 5 “opportunity” is the best way to live because it’s SAFE. People who do not think like millionaires do not know the freedom you seek. It is beyond their comprehension and they don’t dwell on big ideas. For millionaires, a big idea drives them to work like a maniac on a Sunday Morning at Starbucks completely determined to “WIN” at their own life game that they decided to create and take part in.
What are All those other people working who are begrudgingly working a 9 to 5 doing on a Sunday? They are soaking up the last hours of their “budgeted freedom” because they lock it up and put it away for 5 days. It’s a shame.
So many people trained like ants following the leader into a world full of “safe jobs”.
Let me tell you something right now.
NO JOB is safe.
And quite frankly, if you think working for someone else and prostituting out your 5 days for 2 days of freedom is safe….you are not thinking like a millionaire and you are destine to continue living and working in a world where you won’t find the financial freedom, emotional freedom and the family time you desire.
It’s funny.
I work so many jobs right now, but my main job is this blog….and it is that one thing for me that makes all of the other days so worth executing and completing. Even though I am working on a Sunday morning, it’s not work to me. I’m learning and growing as a person. I get to meet other people and I get to share my joys in life more often because of this blog.
NO NO…it’s not just on this invisible (but clearly seen) internet world that I get to socialize. I meet people day in and day out now who are interested in what I do.
People are curious why I smile, why I’m dancing and bobbing my head while “working”.
I run into people from my old profession (that I’m am almost completely done with) who are so intrigued with my new adventure and so grateful to have run into me because of the great little tidbits of knowledge I get to toss their way.
It’s so much better than that 9 to 5 I was willing to accept before my eyes were opened up to millionaire thinking.
I get to see people smile, laugh, being grateful, enjoying a day out. I have the best job on a Sunday morning and you need to know that you can too.
So…What is the best career choice for you?
What will you do?
Are you brave enough to step out of the “normal” (read..horribly dull and not going to get you rich in almost all ways) way of life or are you going to do what your mother tells you to do.
Let’s get back to that question that my mother and my teachers asked: “What are you going to college for?”
I was completely stuck when they asked it.
You see, I loved Biology. LOVED it. I love everything about it. I love being a nerd and learning all those great things you can possibly learn about life and looking through microscopes and taking a look at a microscopic world that many people do not know in an intimate way but are affected by it every day in the most profound ways.
Yeah…I loved Biology.
But…I also loved Art.
Two different worlds for sure.
Both of them deal with acute observation skills, which is apparently my specialty. It’ took me 30 some years to realize that though.
So, Art. What do I do with that?
My parent refused to allow me to go to one of the most elite colleges for Art even though I was awarded a very large summed yearly scholarship.
Why?
Because of the location.
I didn’t realize that I could do what I wanted. I wanted to please my parents and be the “good girl”, so I listened to their reason and found myself in at a university that was “normal” and didn’t get anymore unlost than I was before I was asked what I wanted to do.
I completed my degree out of pure stubbornness to complete it and promptly NEVER got a job in the industry.
Why?
Because I believed my mother when she told me I should have gone into Biology.
It’s crazy how much you work to impress everyone else but yourself isn’t it?
Consequently, I have spent years chasing a career that was “safe” only to find myself in a profession that not even I respect any more due to many factors (read my about page for more on that).
I played it safe.
Don’t do that.
Find that career that you can do that knocks your own socks off. IMPRESS yourself. Bust your ass to be better than who you are now so your future self can confidently look back and say: “yeah…that was me that did that” with a smile that goes from ear to ear.
I ran away from my true talent because I was scared and it wasn’t safe. As I’ve aged, I realize that I’m still talented and it’s about time I use my talents to get to where I WANT to be and not anyone else.
You are the one person that has to live with yourself for YEARS. You are the only person you have to answer to on a millisecond by millisecond basis.
My Advice for Choosing a Career?
The first step in choosing a career is knowing exactly what you want to achieve in life.
You have to have goals in order to know what to do to achieve them.
So, choosing a career should be correlated with your goals and not on what is “safe” or what others tell you that you should do.
SET YOUR GOALS HIGH and they will guide you in your career choices.
YOU NEVER HAVE TO BE STUCK IN A CAREER CHOICE.
Your career should be to achieve your goals….it’s that simple. The typical “careers” that lead you there are just learning experiences to help you achieve the ultimate life that you have challenged yourself to live.
Commit yourself to the life you want and then surround yourself with the means to get there. Find others who are like minded and who can encourage you to do whatever it takes to achieve your dreams.
You have one life to do, so you need to make it NOW. Stop waiting around or searching the internet and start taking actions to get there.
Action is always better than nothing.
I have had many jobs. My goals in those jobs was to be the best.
I was determined to wake up and rock the socks off of everyone I worked with and just push myself to be better and better everyday I showed up.
From being the fastest bus gal in the restaurant to the paint girl that everyone asked for at the paint counter, I busted my bum day in and day out and just worked and worked so I could have the apartment in college instead of the dorm or so I could have that car as a high school kid instead of a school bus.
I learned to work early on in life and I’ve never stopped.
Each step I took has given me the opportunity to refine my own work ethic and skills. As I worked, I got to learn more and more about different types of companies, how they are run and learned that I didn’t want to work for “the man”.
If one thing that has become acutely clear in all my years of practice, it is that I can do whatever I want if I want it bad enough. And if I want it bad enough, I have to work to make it happen.
There is not shortcut to that…but there is a smart way to do it.
In walks Job Killing to my life.
I FINALLY stopped scrimping and keeping track of every last cent that I had to try and get rich by saving money and realized that what I needed was to make more money in order to give myself, my husband and my daughters the life I wanted.
The way Dan Klein puts it? “Stop bending over to pick up dimes when you are chasing Elephants”
I like to change it to be bigger….my take on it: “Stop bending over to pick up dimes when you are chasing WHALES.” (Clearly much larger than elephants, I’m pushing my growth to the Biggest scale I can. I want to achieve great things and with that, I need a HUGE GOAL and then I need to take the actions to get me there.)
You don’t always have to know the HOW, but you do have to know the end result so you know when you get there. I don’t know 100% of how I’m going to reach my first HUGE goal, but I do know that every decision I make now is a result of that vision.
I had to let go of my tight noose around my finances and be willing to take a risk.
Life is already risky, so why play it safe with money? It won’t make you any happier if you constantly stay in the same situation day in and day out. (I can hear my mother rolling her eyes…but I just made $400 in less than 3 hours the other day…hahahah)
Most of you are playing it too safe but wanting things that require a bigger vision and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. The reason you are reading this article is because you probably want to be successful and are struggling to make the right decision of how to do that.
You are looking for better ways to make extra income.
You are doing exactly what I was doing when I woke up and realized that I didn’t have to accept my day to day reality in a 9 to 5 job where I could be attacked at any time (literally) and not given support but rather being told in a subtle way that it was my job to accept abuse….after all I was the “boss” right?
No.
This logic is not even close to what a millionaire thinks. If you are the boss of your own life, you answer to yourself and you don’t question if others will be pleased with your decisions. You are laser focused on your goals and you accept what you do as a means to propel yourself into the life you want to live.
Working for yourself is unforgiving. You face the own stringent restrictions that you place on yourself and not that of others. If what you do doesn’t work, you change and you make it better. If it doesn’t work in a 9 to 5 job…you do whatever someone else tells you what to do, and like a robot you comply to keep that measly paycheck.
Don’t give you who you are. Don’t accept the mediocrity that is taking over our schools and corporate world.
EXCEL with your own vision.
Create your own company and others will surely notice your success and support you.
It may not happen overnight…but keep your career the career of choice!
All jobs can get you there in some way.
ALL of your efforts should be decision making actions that propel you deeper and deeper into your ultimate career choice.
YOU MUST do what it takes to be successful for your own career.
In today’s world, the internet is a propellant for many entreprenuers and a way that you can have a massive impact at a global level.
This blog is a part of my career choice and my journey right now.
I have big plans and goals.
I AM an entrepreneur (with a side job of a 9 to 5 temporarily) that is on her way to making thousands of dollars to accomplish things I should have believed that I could have done years and years ago.
Don’t make the mistakes I made.
Take heed to my advice and FOLLOW your DREAMS. SET GOALS and make every day an opportunity to take another step towards the financial freedom and dream life you set for yourself.
It is possible and unless you believe that, you might as well not even wonder what your career will be because anything will land you on the same planet of nowhere near what you are capable or dreaming of.
Picking your career starts with knowing your goals and then working relentlessly to achieve them.
I know this probably wasn’t the answer you were looking for, but it’s the truth.
How did I get this confident?
How did I come to believe that I can become a millionaire by working for myself and make extra money from home?
I got myself involved with some millionaire mentors that gave me the push I needed.
Yeah…I paid them to help me….and anyone with a vision as strong as mine should do the same.
Look at this way: You are an athlete of life and just like an athlete, you need a coach.
Stop wasting your time figuring out what you need to do and start getting help with what will get you to where you want to go.
Time IS money and TIME is all we have. Stop giving it away to your 9 to 5 to nowhere land.
Create your own future and learn how to create a passive income that will allow you to follow your wildest dreams.
