What is Leadgen?
Leadgen is a fairly new slang term for finding leads online.
A basic conversation about leadgen might go a little something like this:
“Hi Bob, How is your online business going?”
“Great John! Thanks for asking…I gotta question for you.”
“Do you know any good SEO people who can help me build a leadgen site?”
Or you might find online nerds (me included) talking about the latest leadgen strategies.
It’s not that we are so lazy that we can’t say the whole word…trust me. Anyone who is serious about leadgen whether it’s for mlm leads or for a local business, knows that time is valuable and talking to others on the phone can sometimes suck more time than you want from other projects.
Shortening our words is a way to save time.
…..and be cool.
Having our own nerdy slang terms helps us fit in with the cool kids…..
Ok..so you got a little laugh out of that. Great!
Let’s talk serious for a moment.
Leadgen is for anyone who has an online business OR a brick and mortar business.
It’s the way you get people interested and engaged in your products.
Short for lead generation, LeadGen is the name of the game when it comes to building a good email list or a large group of “followers”.
The basic point of Leadgen is to get more people to “walk in the door” of your business opportunity.
LeadGen can be used to bring more traffic to a website for search engine ranking OR it can be used to bring in leads for a service or product that you provide directly to the customer.
Some example of sites that use leadgen techniques are:
- Insurance Agents
- Taxi Drivers
- MLM Leaders (and followers)
- Doctors (big time!)
- So many more…..
Leadgen is a skillset to be reckoned with and, as time goes on, it is becoming more and more valuable due to the increased use of online websites for commerce on and offline.
Imagine if you could find a way to have nearly unlimited potential customers in you pipeline.
Welcome to Leadgen. The tem has been around since late 2010 but the idea has been around since the beginning of sales, religion…anything really.
Simply put, Leadgen is the multitude of techniques used to attract others to you, your opportunity or your idea.

Lead Generation in a local market has proven fairly easy when compared to websites that are intended to be seen at a national or even global scale.
What they are really looking for are Local Lead Generation Experts to help optimize and fix their websites so that they are performing better and bringing in more leads.
The ultimate goal is to get more people looking at their product.
Smart small business owners and large business owners alike are finding local leadgen experts OR they are going at it alone.
Just last night I spoke with a guy who spent a year learning how to rank a website for his local store in a population of over a million people in New York.
Imagine the traffic this store must get now!
This guy is not alone. Many business owners make attempts to enhance their websites and sadly many fail.

Think about it.
You spend hundreds to thousands of dollars in mlm.
Yes, people do this.

It’s basic math.

Getting customers is more than LeadGen in and of itself, however it is one of the first steps in the sales process because it helps to drive traffic and generate leads.
The majority of people give up on Leadgen strategies because they get lost in the mixed confused individual of mlm that discover (usually very quickly) that making “easy money” is actually very involved.
It’s something the mlms and other online opportunities don’t tell you.
Here’s a little secret for you: Madly successful people don’t just get lucky. Often times there are hours and hours of effort and time put behind their success.
LeadGen – Lead Generation Ideas
Producing local leads and mlm leads through leadgen is one of the most productive things you can do for your website.

- Know your competition and realize that there is a reason they are the “top”. Imitate or improve upon what you see them doing online. (Your competition is the guy at the top of the search engine in your niche not the guy who lives next door who has a ‘prettier” lawn than you)
- Content is KEY in the majority of sites out there. .there are a few that look fairly simple and rank high with blank pages, however, this doesn’t mean much if you’re ranking for “Purple Spotted Elephant Skin Shoes”. It’s likely you’re in a more competitive niche than that and it’s the reason you even reading this article. Bulk up your site with quality content.
- Categories Matter. Categories of information on your site act as the Table of Context for your business. Search Engines read these and weigh it to help determine where to put you in the mix of things. Do a little research and find out what categories will help you rank higher in the long run. Dominate one category at a time and you’ll find yourself with more traffic.
- Be Active. Activity is a key signal that you’re alive. If you think throwing up one page and hoping it will reach the entire globe, you are likely not seeing much traffic at all. .there are exceptions to this rule but these are generally completely new trending or viral topics and products. Add a little something in effort towards your business each day and your traffic will increase in time.
- There is no secret or special magic wand. The basics of leadgen are simple. Find out what your ideal clients want and then show it to them. It’s like dangling a carrot in front of a rabbit. They may not bite it right away but they notice, sniff and even follow it. Eventually they take a bite.
