Companion planting is an organic idea of curing one plant’s problem using another which has been a favorite method of pest control for gardeners for a long time. It is indeed an effective way to deal with pests. In order to control ants also many veteran gardeners use companion planting method. This method is based on the fact that the fragrance of certain herbs acts as an agent that repels certain insects including ants. By definition, companion planting means the planting of different crops in proximity in both gardening and agriculture, based on the assumption that they help out each other in nutrient uptake, pest control, pollination, and other aspects essential to rising crop efficiency. For farmers whose aim is to get increased yield and reduction of pesticides through integrated pest management system, this method has been a good choice. This method is favored by farmers in both developed and developing countries for various reasons. Companion planting is considered to be a form of Polyculture which is a mode of agriculture using multiple crops in the same space.

Though companion planting is considered to be an important method to control ants in an organic method, there are many things to be aware before one begins doing it. There are many herbs that are claimed to be effective in ant control but many issues have been cited during pest inspections Sydney pest inspectors have noticed during their inspection. This happens because one kind of herb that is effective in controlling one type of ants may not be that effective with another variety. Therefore realizing the type of plant that will be useful for your garden is important in companion planting for ant control.
