When I came to work Marikina, that was in 1995, I was amazed at how clean it was and how disciplined were the Marikenos. I grew up to be a young man and a teacher at Makati and was witness to how sordid Makati (the old part), Manila, Quezon City and Pasay.
For that reason too, I decided to stay for good as a teacher at Marist School and focused all my energies in building a house for my growing family then. Since I had lots of students along Tanguile (likod ng Marist) up to Champaca, I finally decided to set up a house in the Tanguile Settlement (Buncio). Life then in that place was idyllic. People whose kids I had taught looked up to me and my family with much respect.
Because I thought that I could contribute to community building, I even accepted serving as grievance and adjudication board chairman. Then came the falling out...(to be continued)
